The MBA Oath was created to make a real impact on the meaning of the MBA degree and on the role people expect business to play in society. While other professions have certain guiding principles/pledges that are administered at graduation or after passing certain professional examinations, this does not presently exist for business school students. The students who designed the MBA Oath believe the purpose of the Oath is to set a new standard for how people conduct business in the future.

Catalyst's longitudinal project, The Promise of Future Leadership: A Research Program on Highly Talented Employees in the Pipeline, develops timely reports on the retention and advancement of high potential women and men. The project surveys graduates of leading business schools in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia, with the intent of assessing their career values, goals, and expectations, the developmental opportunities afforded them, and their strategies for managing work and family life. The reports highlight the differences in women's and men's career experiences and satisfaction; some feature perspectives from global leaders and other experts.
The second report, Pipeline’s Broken Promise, examines the conventional wisdom of the past two decades in which leaders have counted on parity in education, women’s accelerated movement into the labor force, and company-implemented diversity and inclusion programs to yield a robust talent pipeline where women are poised to make rapid gains to the top. Findings reveal that instead of women and men being on equal footing and their career trajectories gender-blind, inequality remains entrenched. Among high-potential graduates from elite MBA programs (Respondent Profile)—those companies count on for future leadership—women lagged men in advancement and compensation starting from their first job and were less satisfied with their careers. This report includes perspectives from CEOs and other senior leaders, who considered the findings a wake-up call and made recommendations for corrective action. A Statistical Appendix is available.

The Happiness Project is one of the most thoughtful works on happiness to have emerged from the recent explosion of interest in the subject. Rubin weaves together philosophy, scientific research, history, analysis, and real-life experiences as she explains what worked for her—and what didn’t. Her conclusions are sometimes counter-intuitive – for example, she finds that money can buy happiness, when spent correctly – but they resonate with readers of all backgrounds.

US and European banks are offering huge pay packages to hire top bankers in the Asia-Pacific region, in a sign that the compensation curbs pledged by financial groups after the crisis are already being eroded.
A shortage of talent combined with rivalry among banks to expand or rebuild operations across the fast-growing region has sent compensation levels for some bankers soaring to levels last seen before the financial turmoil, according to headhunters and bankers.
Banking chiefs said that, unlike in the US and Europe, where a public backlash forced banks to keep a lid on pay, the war for talent in Asia prompted many institutions to make lucrative offers to star recruits.
In the aftermath of the crisis, most banks pledged to reduce pay for staff around the world, tie compensation to long-term results and end controversial practices such as guaranteed sign-on bonuses.
Citigroup, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and UBS, which each received substantial state support during the crisis, are among those seeking to build their staff bases in Asia.
Industry participants said it was becoming common for senior bankers in niche areas to be offered multimillion-dollar deals, including the return of controversial “guaranteed bonuses” for one or two years.
The return of such packages and bonuses could spark furore among politicians and regulators in the US and Europe.
“Compensation for top bankers in Asia is generally approaching 2007 levels and in some cases is exceeding it,” said Philip Clayton of Clayton Asia, a search firm.
Bank of America and Citi have announced several high-profile recruits of late. Banks less badly affected by the crisis, including Standard Chartered, Barclays, Deutsche Bank and Nomura, are also fuelling competition for bankers with targeted hiring plans.
Some offers are being structured to guarantee large salary increases in the first year, with a “spoken” commitment in the second year, according to bank chiefs familiar with the matter.
“I am seeing astonishing salary offers made by banks crippled by the financial crisis,” said one regional chief of a top-tier investment bank.
Hiring banks say they have no option but to pay competitive salaries to attract staff to take advantage of growth opportunities in lucrative markets such as China and Australia, whose economies sailed through the downturn. Headhunters said regional specialists who cover sectors such as financial institutions or resources were in highest demand.
Industry participants said bankers with a proven ability to generate revenue in China were sought-after, with salary packages of $10m not uncommon.

Are you tired of the TOEFL ? Here is an alternative !
Many of Europe’s top business schools have endorsed a newly-launched computer-based English language test, the Pearson Test of English. Pearson, owners of the Financial Times, officially launched the product today.
London Business School, Insead, Esade and Iese Business School in Europe have already agreed to accept test scores from the test of English proficiency, as have Ceibs in Shanghai and the University of British Columbia’s Sauder school and the Ivey school at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
In the US proportionally fewer top-ranked business schools have validated the test, which prospective students will be able to sit from the end of October 2009. However, the test is supported by GMAC, designers of the GMAT test, which is also distributed by Pearson.
According to Pearson, 770 educational institutions have recognised or are in the process of recognising the test. During the launch period, the test will be available in at least 20 countries, including China, Australia, the United States, the UK, India and Canada. Fees for the test will be between $150 and $210.
PS : Essa matéria é de Setembro de 2009. Outras escolas já estão aceitando o teste que é entregue em até 3 dias e evita os transtornos do TOEFL. Pesquise e consulte.

In a move that underlines the decline in the dominance of the US in corporate education, the London Business School has for the first time come top of the Financial Times rankings of the world's top 100 MBA programmes.
The annual list also for the first time features three Chinese schools in the top 30 - the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (ranked nine); the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai (22) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (28).
The rise of the LBS - based on a combination of strong research and global teaching - over the past 12 years has mirrored the diminishing dominance of US-based schools.
In 1999, when LBS was ranked eight, there were 20 US-based schools and four other European institutions in the top 25. Twelve years later, there are just 11 US schools in this cadre, with 11 from Europe and three from Asia.
US business schools have seen their graduates facing a tough job market this year with 23 per cent failing to find a job three months after graduation, according to data supplied to the FT. By comparison, just 14 per cent of alumni of Asian schools found themselves without a job.
There is also evidence that the salary premium once enjoyed by graduates from the elite business schools of the US is on the wane, with graduates from top schools often in debt to the tune of $50,000-$100,000 (£31,000-£62,000).
